From the Screen to the Stage - Arcy Drive is a band to watch

By Meghan Connors

If your Tik Tok FYP has to do with anything related to, new music, live music, nostalgic summer vibes, or “golden retriever” boys, odds are Arcy Drive’s viral cover of “Sister Golden Hair” by American has probably come across your feed. With over 100,000 views, that one video has put this Long Island cover band on the radars of many.

After finding the Tik Tok myself I went to see the band and find out if they lived up to the hype the internet had recently given them. Arcy Drive played The Nutty Irishman in Farmingdale on August 14th. The band drew a decent crowd of clear fans. The spotlight was evenly held amongst the members with varying solos (shout out to the bass player’s killer harmonica solo) and excited faces to captivate audience members. Their setlist was fresh, yet full of feel-good oldies. The best of classic rock. Though, their lead singer found himself laughing through the unattainable higher notes of The White Stripes, “Seven Nation Army.”

Later in their show the band brought up a friend to electrify the crowd with a cover of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Unfortunately, the performance was cut short by a confused bouncer on an angry power trip. Regardless, Arcy Drive was quick to lighten the mood once again with another song.

Being that they are new to the scene, hiccups were bound to occur, but the members danced through forgotten words, keeping their crowd blissfully entertained. They ended their set with an original, “Roll My Stone,” which was, in my opinion, the most sung-along song of the night. The song greatly exemplifies the raspy, soul-filled voice of their lead singer, the unapologetic heavy stylings of their drummer, and the coolness of the guitar players.

The band was kind enough to chat with me after their set. I look forward to sitting down with them soon - stay tuned for the stories behind the music.
